Gold Dust Stairway is the story of an 80’s band, named to honor hits from legendary songwriters. On their ride to stardom, they were told they did not fit in because they were not “the right kind of people”, code for racial bigotry. That’s when their songs were stolen by a board-certified con artist, before he escaped, unscathed, undaunted and scot-free.
Their original lead singer, Victor E, became an icon, after he stole the songs they had written, but never copyrighted. Now, after the band members’ business careers reached their pinnacle, he had an epiphany before his cancer-ravaged body failed and he died. After Victor’s death, his estate’s attorney summoned the group to Nashville, along with providing them access to everything they had missed. He resubmits all the songs he heisted from them for revised writing and royalty credits. He has Grammy and Oscar awards reissued so the band can get the credit and overdue financial compensation to which they are entitled.
An unexpected crisis arises. An illegitimate son appears to contest the will and a huge legal fight occurs. Just when the trial reaches its climax, an unexpected witness steps forward and testifies that Victor was murdered. Chaos arises as the judge must decide if the will is to be allowed or if restitution will be returned to the estate before being distributed to the sole biological heir, OR the band’s legacy will become another catastrophic betrayal.
